When I was in University, there were already many people who realize that time is the most fair thing the world gave them. And many of them want to find a way to save time by using to manage their behavior.

Here’s some tips of time management they offered at that time.

  • Try to do multiple task at the same time. For instance, fry eggs while boiling milk.
  • Let other people do the things might take your time.
  • Type faster.

These tips seem to make sense. But people feel still lack of time.

After many years grows, this theory changes not much. They just change cooking breakfast to reading books while taking a train. And calculate the time more specific. That’s not helping people. So another theory come up.

Instead of time management, energy management seems more reliable. It says you’re not a robot. You’d feel tired after you finish some difficult task. That is your energy. You should put you energy into your difficult task first. Because if you do it in opposite way, you’ll feel tired before you prepare to do the difficult task.

So the key point of this theory is your energy is limited, you should use it wisely and carefully.

But the problem is we don’t know when the difficult task happens. We can’t just sit around all day, wait the big things happen. We need to deal with small things. It’s not the things we can control.

So these two theories work not very well. Is there another theory could fix this problem? Or we just give up, let our life lose control? Recently a TED video gets popular on the Internet. The Speaker shared her own opinion about time management. I think that may solve this problem.

In general, her point is you should focus on Import things, make time for them. Spend your time on priority things. And how to distinguish things priority or not is the key and also by your choice. That means when you say I don’t have time to do this, you mean I choose not to do it. And the keyword in this sentence is choose. You do things by your choice, not because be forced to do. To do that, you need to have a list, put your priority things on it. And the better way is, write a review for next week or year. So you’ll know which things is your priority to meet that goal.

Now we know how to save your time. Not calculate your time or try to save your energy, just make choice, do the things that really matters.
